The USN first issued these now iconic shawl collar work jackets in the early 1920s as a replacement for the navy smocks which had been used for decades. The simple shape if this work coat has become a favourite for its boxy cut and loose sleeve which allow for a superb freedom of movement. For this model, Buzz Ricksons have faithfully reproduced the jacket out of a beautifully clean woven 10oz denim, which has a smooth finish with brilliant fading possibilities.
The shawl collar is a unique design which protects the neck from the sun and harsh winds. The metallic buttons have been custom made and feature the same anchor stamped design as the original ones used by the United States Navy. Two simple patch pockets have been added to the front for basic versatility, and stitched holes have been included on the cuffs and waistband for the opportunity to add a drawstring.
